Conservative to Liberal... Women in media

The representation of women has been evolving over the decades and how women are portrayed in media can be analyzed from various aspects. Media consist of vast number of channels and how women are portrayed varies upon channel to channel, culture to culture and the country that channel belongs to or is being broadcasted from. None the less, it goes without saying that strides have been made in the way women are portrayed on channels, Movies, TV Shows and so forth. To the extent, that their growth in the presence and influence have created a certain interest and hype among people.
When talked about such an issue people have a lot of different views and some most certainly would say that women are presented in such a manner to increase the viewer's rate for a specific channel, show, movie etc. which to greater extent is rational. And how that is done is again an art. The authenticity with which it is presented is what appeals the most to the public. This has been happening for decades. Society especially men crave for extreme pleasure, to somehow quench their thirst and it is fascinating to see how media knows exactly how to do that.
Women portrayal varies on media: Liberalization, Modernization, equality, varying roles in a society, stereotyping. So they are basically being presented from all sort of views and aspects it just depends which one compels you the most.
One of the most interesting issues is how thin the women on television are portrayed which is mostly related to the fashion industry. Fashion has crept from all corners of the world to get much attention and that is what our society is starting to become; Fashion orientated society and that without a doubt is the Media influence. This has given a birth to a "norm" for all the females in society where female figure has drastically changed from voluptuous and curvy to waif-like thin And making them believe that this is how they all should be. Moreover, teens shown on media have drastically changed from the previous era, although shown to be as very presumptuous, modern, strong and independent but all at the expense of their parents. The attitude and behavior towards parents is portrayed to be changing and that is influencing teens in real world. Furthermore, working women are shown all over the media that now women are given the equal rights and they are capable of presenting themselves in the business world and that is how women should be if they wish to be. The list of the roles of women goes on and on and again do have influence on the society. In addition, women are being used as sex objects as well and that yet again as mentioned above to boost the sales. And finally they are presented in a stereotypical roles as well. The majority of soap operas are set in a domestic situation, because the home is a place where women's expertise is supposedly values and is also a place of comfort. Research shows that “good" women are presented as submissive, sensitive and domesticated, "bad" women are rebellious, independent and selfish.
After the two world wars and a series of national liberation movements, women had begun to find their own voices and seek a more active role in public and academic life. There is an urgent need to increase the participation and access of women to expression and decision making at all levels and achieve the gender balance in the appointment of women in all form of the media. It is required to promote and portray the diversified positive role played by the women in media.
